Vertical
Etch
In-Form Retarder for Exposed
Aggregate and Construction Joints
Vertical Etch Retarder is a ready
to use, water based form retarder. It's a red liquid which reveals aggregate
on formed surfaces in fresh
concrete by delaying the surface set, so that the formed surface paste may
be brushed and washed away from between the aggregate particles to
produce a uniformed etch, and attractive exposed aggregate finish. Used on
the wooden forms of steps, curbs, walls or
anywhere an exposed aggregate concrete finish is wanted on a
vertical surface. Also used for preparing concrete construction
joints for better bonding.
TECHNICAL DATA
Appearance - Red liquid.
Specific gravity - 0.98.
Viscosity - Spray-able with normal
spray equipment.
Vertical Etch
Retarder is Non staining, Fast Drying, Non corrosive, Non flammable.
safe and easy to use. With guaranteed results.
Vertical Etch Retarder will retard the set of the surface
cement when applied as directed. The setting
time will be influenced by air temperature, cement type, content and
slump. If the surface is not washed off within 48 hours the
surface concrete may set and reach full strength. A trial run is
recommended before general application to determine timing and the
depth of etch required.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Agitate retarder thoroughly
before use. Be sure all form materials are dry and clear of debris.
Using a low pressure sprayer, spray affected areas of formwork to be
exposed. It is important that formwork does not get wet after
being applied. Vertical Etch has been designed to be fast drying and
will dry into most form surfaces within 20 minutes. Including
plywood, dura-forms, soft or hardwoods. Vertical Etch has been
formulated to be easy to use, with excellent results every time.
Vertical Etch is totally environmentally friendly. Place
concrete in formwork (3 parts cement, 4 parts sand, 6 parts
aggregate by volume is a typical mix) Protect the coated surface
from abrasion when placing concrete.. Within 12 - 24 hours after
application remove form work and proceed to remove retarded
vertical layer of mortar with a stiff broom and garden hose
water, leaving a clean exposed aggregate surface. If extremely small
aggregate is used, it is important not to start the wash off too
early, as bare spots may be created.
